A warm welcome to all of our lovely Year 1 children and their families. The children settled in well today and enjoyed their very first day as Year 1 children.

DESIGN & TECHNOLOGY DAY

Year 1 had lots of fun designing and making their own DINOSAUR WORLDS.  We were able to design and plan our world, choosing what materials and equipment we needed.  Throughout, we were able to adapt and change our materials and designs as required.  We worked well together and helped and supported our friends in our group. Finally, after a lot of hard work, we presented our fabulous DINOSAUR WORLDS.

Christmas activities

The children have worked hard this term.  They have been learning about Advent, its meaning and the many ways by which we prepare to celebrate the birth of Jesus.

We contributed to our KS1 Christmas play and performed fantastically. Well done Year 1, you were all magnificent!

We also enjoyed our Christmas party and were lucky enough to have a visit from Father Christmas himself!

what a danceathon!

Year 1 thoroughly enjoyed participating in our school DANCEATHON today, alongside Year 2.  We had lots of fun.  Well done children and teachers! Thank you to those who have sponsored the children.  All contributions are greatly appreciated as they are going towards our School Trip Fund.  Thank you.

 

Our trip to the library

This week we enjoyed a fabulous trip to our local library.  We were able to participate in a variety of activities, which were all linked to our class topic on 'toys'.  We were able to look at, and play with, a variety of OLD and NEW toys.  Looking at the many books about toys in the library, we were able to gain lots of information about the past and present.  We also enjoyed sitting together and listening to a story.

BLACK HISTORY WEEK

As part of Black History Week, we have been finding our about the life of a very famous pop star, 'The King of Pop', Michael Jackson.  We had lots of fun listening , and dancing, to his music and songs and we performed his famous 'moon walk'.   We enjoyed making our very own class model of Michael Jackson.

Do you know when, and how, to wash your hands?

Year 1 do!

As part of our work on ‘Keeping Healthy', we worked with Lisa, our school nurse, on the importance of washing our hands.  We discussed the main times we need to wash our hands and practised washing them properly.

toys, toys, toys!

We are enjoying our topic on toys and comparing life in the past to the present.  We have researched and looked at a variety of old toys, comparing them to the toys we have now.  We have been able to interview grandparents, asking questions about life in the past, and then relaying this information orally and in writing.  We can describe our own toys and the different materials they are made from, exploring why a particular material is, or was, used.

Can you move like a robot?

We have been working on recognising, and using, the different parts of our body to move and travel in various ways.  We are developing our balance, agility and co-ordination.

WELCOME TO YEAR 1'S TALK SHOW

We enjoyed participating in our very own 'Talk Show'.  We invited the characters from our book, Big Bear and Little Bear, to join us.  We were able to ask and answer some fabulous questions.
